HOW SAFE ARE YOU???
Not from Corona, But the information you share…
Cybersecurity is an aspect that is highly overlooked by most
individuals. However, any sane person who uses technology should be aware of
the power that technology has. As we fight for Gold and Oil, we forget Information
is power. Left, right, and center, we are looking for data. We are uploading
massive volumes of data on a daily basis.
According to bernardmarr.com, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created on a daily basis
and that is just an approximation. There is so much data and information on the
internet that the normal individual is only able to access about 5% of the
available information.

Over the years, there have been several incidences regarding
hacking. In 2019 alone, there were 37.1 Million cyberattacks in the 4th quarter of 2019 in Kenya.
Hacking is an act where an individual is willing to understand the computer
beyond the normal user. Hence, they can access virtually any data that is
regarded as “Private and secure”. It is a fact that in the age we live in, which
is also being referred to; as the age of information, we depend on technology
for most of the activities that we perform on a daily basis.
From shopping, learning, banking, and even our health. This was
even made more mandatory by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Due to the pandemic most of
the activities depended on technology; from learning to business, to make sure
that life wasn’t put completely on hold.
One might wonder, why is this dangerous?
Furthermore, technology helps us to connect. We use social media to let people know about
ourselves. Although some of the information might appear “Private” it is not. It
is basically what is called “We are sitting ducks”. One might wonder, why is
this dangerous? How would you feel that every single piece of information that
you shared with a friend or a relative or a sibling or even a parent over a
simple and secure phone call, SMS, or an email, can be accessed anytime by
anyone?
How do you know you have been hacked???
